I can advise on how to obtain weather forecasts and communicate at sea, using:

• SSB radio as your source for weather fax and radio nets.

• Iridium phone to down load grib files and emails. This requires setting up with a service provider.

• Navtex weather receivers. This system uses MF radio waves as the transmission source and is generally only able to transmit to a range of 350 and 450 miles.

• Inmarsat C Satellite text messaging service, almost world wide coverage.

• Going through routing options and advise on planning passages and timings, taking consideration of the likely weather patterns.

• looking at the entry requirements for intended stop-overs.
